Critical Discourse Analysis Course

This fall course offers a practical introduction to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). While the course covers key theoretical assumptions and concepts, the focus is on how to do critical discourse analysis. Specifically, students will be introduced to different approaches to CDA and how these approaches may be applied and combined. The course centers on three forms of discourse that are key in solidifying and defying power relations: media discourse, political-institutional discourse, and social movement discourse.

What is the role of normativity in designing a study? How can analytical clarity and persuasion be achieved?
